Cellulose nanofibres and nanofibre materials

A method was developed to estimate the aspect ratio of cellulose nanofibres from suspension gel point. Suspension gel point can be measured from sedimentation

The figure shows that the final sedimented height increases with solids concentration.  The relationship between sedimented height and solids concentration can be used to estimate the transition between a dilute and semi-dilute suspension and also the aspect ratio. Sheets can be efficiently formed when the initial solids concentration is well above the dilute-semi-dilute transition. We have developed a method to reduce the sheet preparation time to 10 minutes

The figure shows the smooth surface of a micro-fibrillar cellulose sheet and how transparent the sheet is.  One of our sheets has been placed on top of the "Laboratory" printing and the print is clearly visible through the sheet.
